Last night I had the privilege of visiting Manchester for a Benjamin Booker gig at Manchester Academy, the bar and gig space at the university's student's union. Everything from the train journey there to the coffee and cocktails was as enjoyable as I had hoped, and the gig itself was the best way to start off this year's line-up of gigs: Benjamin Booker gave a raw and emotional performance, thanking us for being the largest audience he and his band have played on their own, and with an average age of 45 the mosh-pit was the best I've ever seen. Proper northern spirit.
